Help Nightboat Books Publish David Wojnarowicz!

David Wojnarowicz, Untitled (One Day This Kid), 1990-91.

Help Nightboat Books reissue Memories That Smell like Gasoline, David Wojnarowicz’s memoir of childhood and adolescence amidst the AIDS epidemic.

Memories That Smell like Gasoline is one of three written works published by David Wojnarowicz in his lifetime, now set to be published with a new foreword by Ocean Vuong. It will include four stories, interspersed with ink drawings and watercolors by the author—an ambitious publication project to celebrate one of the most renowned artists of the late twentieth century.

In Wojnarowicz’s writing, we see the themes that contoured his life and work: a preoccupation with ruins and ruination; the impulse to make public different lives and desires; the insistence on pleasure, and the implication of politics in pleasure.

This fall, we are raising funds to support the publication and distribution of this hybrid, archival work, as well as the continuation of our work publishing and reissuing the work of queer and trans luminaries.
